You are invited to join fellow democracy campaigners in a day of deliberation to consider the purpose and process of a people's convention on the constitution from two perspectives: (i) the cross-party backed King's College proposal and (ii) an open, transparent, self-organised process.
Whatever the outcome of the EU referendum, the Westminster system will remain broken and the case for substantial change will become even more urgent.
We have brought democracy campaigners together to share and develop views on how a convention might be designed so that it has the best public interest outcome. We have done this to try to influence the convention proposal being formulated by King's College following an initiative by Jon Trickett MP as shadow minister for the constitutional convention.
However, the lack of transparency around this proposal, along with concerns that the focus of this convention might be narrowing, means that we need to continue to develop ideas about how to launch our own process. This has the potential to ensure that politics works for people and planet if the right process is adopted.
A citizen-led constitutional convention could refound the UK on the democratic principle of popular sovereignty, where power truly does rest with the people and decisions are made in the public interest.
We will consider a series of questions around the purpose and process of a convention in cafe style around tables and then join in a plenary to see what we can agree.

This event builds on our Re-Imagine Democracy conference last November, our public meeting at the House of Commons on 10 May and our survey The Purpose and Process of a Constitutional Convention .
This event is open to all democracy campaigners who support the principle that power should rest with the people and is organised by the Convention Planning Group which came together after Assemblies for Democracy's Re-imagine Democracy: towards a Citizens Convention on the Constitution conference last November.
